Grown Up Easter

The Centerpiece Michael's
Mom and Dad sent us.
So I’m a holiday sort of girl. My favs are St. Patrick ’s Day and Christmas but not many holidays go by that I don’t recognize. I love to celebrate, decorate, and relic in the happiness the holidays bring, even the little ones. Poor Michael thinks I’m a bit crazy, but at least I come by it honestly. At 26 we still get Halloween, Valentines, and Easter gifts sent from our parents. Spoiled? Yes. Loved? Even more. But who doesn’t love chocolate filled eggs, peanut butter pumpkins, and conversation hearts? Even Dudley usually has something included in those boxes the post man brings.

This year Easter was a bit different. Because of the auction and having so much to do around here, heading home to celebrate with our parents like we usually do just didn’t work out. So instead we decided we’d have a “Grown Up Easter” here at our house. The athletic department at WOU is filled not only co-workers, but great friends who have moved to Monmouth from all over the country. Many of them were in the same boat as us and for a variety of reasons couldn’t go home for the weekend either. Instead the Hares, Steph Metz, and Danny Barnts came to La Casa Feuling.

Our Tablescape
The evening provided reason for a lot of firsts. For the first time we officially hosted a group of people at our house. That seems crazy since we moved in last July, but I guess around here we just typically gather at the Pub or Wine bar when we get together. For the first time I got out my fancy china, passed down from my great grandma. I even decorated the napkins with little Easter bows, for which I received a lot of teasing from Michael for being an overachiever (definitely not a first). And for the first time didn’t dye Eggs. Not a first I was too happy about, but since Michael doesn’t eat hardboiled eggs and I wasn’t going to be eating a dozen myself, it just didn’t make sense. My brother on the other hand was thrilled, because he despises doing eggs, and this year he got out of it. I told him that pumpkins waiting to be carved were already calling his name. I know he was rolling his eyes on the other side of the phone. J

Beyond all of the firsts, we had an amazing evening. We were lucky to celebrate with wonderful friends, yummy food, tasty wine, and delicious strawberry cake (a’ la Steph Metz). Dudley even cooperated with minimal barking, thanks to a day of us forcing him not to nap so that he would pass out when everyone arrived. Everything went off without a hitch, and I couldn’t have been happier. While we missed our families, our great friends helped us make the first Easter in our new house fantastic. So I guess if this is how all the rest of the grown up holidays are going to be, then I’m definitely in! J
